The defend mecanism of Radix balthica (formerly Lymnaea peregra is harmful to fish and other small living animals when a fish try to eat the snail except puffers and some fish have no problems whit the toxicity and eat them but tropical fish that needs more oxygen rich water like barbs and chilids and fish their developed gills and effectively absorbe the toxcit faster.
symtones are like nitrite, faint colors and hiding, however the toxcid is not always deadly in short terms but its usefull to remove the snails and do a water change.
